Surgical Face Lifts have gone down 85%! PDO thread lifts have sky rocketed!

Cosmetic surgery for face lifts is officially over! In a recent medical journal it was revealed that less and less people are opting to have face lifts, in favour of non surgical methods. The most popular method by far, is the PDO Thread Lift.Find out why people are going crazy for the thread lift!

PDO (Polydioxanone), is a collagen producing material that has been used in medicine in the production of dissolvable sutures (stitches) for 30 years especially in the field of cardiac surgery. These threads are very popular in the Far East, especially in Korea and Japan where there are often called the V Lift procedure, and they are now fast becoming popular in the UK and America! You can understand why, when we are made more aware of complications related to surgery and general anaesthetic, as well as some of the horrific faces being paraded across newspapers and media outlets of face lifts gone wrong!

With a non surgical pdo facelift, the chances of something going wrong are very small, and the chances or death are nil!

I was recently at a conference, where a Dr Han Jin Kwan spoke of how cosmetic surgeons are admitting that most people have a second facelift after the first one, because they say the face lift does not last that long, due to the weakening of the facial ligaments being cut during surgery, which is why people are happier to have a non surgical thread lift as it is less complicated and has excellent results.

Han-Jin Kwon, M.D., South Korea

Dr. Kwon is the Representative Director of DERMASTER Clinic Network; President, International Association of Aesthetic and Antiaging Medicine and Advisory Director of Korean Association of Stem Cell Therapy. He has more than 20 years of work experience in Aesthetic Medicine and has trained more than 2,000 physicians globally. He is the inventor of Ultra-V PCL Thread Lifting Technique and many other innovative Cosmetic Injectables, that are popularly used in more than 50% of the local clinics in South Korea. Often featured on South Korean media including SBS, MBC, KBS and CNBC as an expert on hair loss and anti-ageing procedures, he has worked on more than 10,000 cases of facial lifting treatments using PDO/ PCL threads and combination therapies, and is the true pioneer in the region.

Here at TOA Clinic London, I have completed 6 diplomas in PDO/PCL face lifting techniques, and have performed many thread lifts, some of which I use a combination of fillers and Ultherapy for incredible results!

I have found that moulded threads actually give a better result with less trauma and recovery time to the client. These threads are being used by few clinics at the moment, as they are relatively new in the UK.

I do believe that the thread lift is the way forward for non surgical face lifts. My clients go crazy for this treatment, and often come back for a second round of threads for extra tightening, because they are so happy with the results that they have already achieved! I have clients who have had a butt thread lift, and then had a face thread lift followed by a neck lift. It sounds like a lot, but these are done a few months apart, It just goes to show how effective the treatment is, not only in results, but the fact that the client can go home and go back to work in a day or 2, makes the thread lift an attractive option.

The limitations on recovery include:

No gym for 2 weeks

No dental work for 2 months

No steam or sauna for 2 weeks

No really hard food for 2 weeks

No anti inflammatories for 2 weeks. (paracetamol is allowed)

No alcohol for 2 weeks.

You must also sleep on your back for 2 weeks with an extra pillow, which when I performed a thread lift on myself, was really the hardest part of my recovery. Other than that, the procedure is not that painful.

It is always a good idea to take arnica for a week before and after, to stop any potential bruising, though in 99% of cases in my clinic, bruising is nil to minimal. I also recommend you take a paracetamol an hour before having the procedure and then again in the evening, and whenever you have any pain.

It is also recommended to take antibiotics for 3 days.

For those who are not quite up for having a thread lift, or anyone with a phobia for needles, we recommend Ultherapy or ultrasound skin tightening, which tightens down to the SMAS layer, which is the layer tightened during a face lift! All of this can be done without cutting the skin or inserting a needle. It is quite a painful procedure, as it feels like hot needles are penetrating into the deep later of the skin, without touching the surface! The upside is that the pain is bearable, and is adjusted to make sure that you are comfortable. This is the second best option for less severe skin tightening. You can go back to work immediately and your face will already look tighter and lifted by the time you leave. The results continue to improve over 9 months!
